Early 19th century burr walnut Erard grand piano
This project involved the restoration of the fretted music stand which came to me in very poor condition with large areas of loss to the fretwork.
The work involved taking precise rubbings of the existing fretwork to make a cutting pattern for the missing sections.
Careful selection of matching burr walnut veneer that was made up into laminated sections to correspond to the thickness of the existing fretwork.
The cutting pattern was then glued to the face of the made up section and cut with a fret saw. Once the fretwork was cut the new sections were carefully jointed into the missing areas and levelled up to the surrounding wood.
Finally the new sections were coloured matched to the original surface and finished with thin layers of shellac polish.
